The second Symposium on Statistics and Operations Research in Baseball will be a meeting of the baseball, industrial, and academic worlds. The focus is on how Statistics and Operations Research methodology is used within baseball and associated businesses and on how baseball inspires the expansion of the frontiers of Statistics and Operations Research as scientific fields. The theme of this year's Symposium is “The Economics of Baseball.” The Symposium will consist of a panel discussion in the morning where members of the media, major league baseball, economists, city government, and others will discuss various current issues in baseball where statistical and operations research modeling can be (and are) used. In the afternoon, there will be a set of short (20-25 minute) seminars. More details on the program will follow.

All sessions and events will be held at the Kaufman Management Center (KMC), 44 West 4th Street, New York City - part of New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business. The School is accessible via the R, N, W (to 8th Street), A, B, C, D, E, F, V (to W. 4th Street), or #6 (to Astor Place) subway line. A public parking garage can be found one block from the Kaufman Management Center under the Washington Square Village apartment complex, beneath the block bounded by LaGuardia Place, West 3rd Street, Mercer Street, and Bleecker Street, and other local parking garages are also available. The Kaufman Center is building 50 in the official NYU map. More NYU campus information, including detailed directions, nearby hotels, restaurants, and so on, can be found at NYU's Campus Information website. Symposium attendees are responsible for arranging their own travel and hotel accommodations here in New York City; we suggest making arrangements as soon as possible since hotels are likely to book fast during the summer, particularly given the holding of the All-Star Game the day before the conference. This link provides access to the NYU Travel Portal, which contains a good deal of travel-related information and links.
